NETBALL REPORT

With plenty still to play for across all grades, the club heads to Buninyong this weekend looking to bounce back after another tough round on the court last week. There were a few games that slipped away that easily could have gone the other way, but the effort and determination across the board certainly hasn’t dropped.

Despite the results, there were plenty of positives to take from the weekend, with all teams continuing to show growth, resilience and strong passages of netball. The fight shown right through every grade has the club confident heading into another big challenge away from home.

A special shoutout to your favourite netballers favourite netballer Kacey Wilson. Last Saturday she took the court in THREE grades, helping out A and B along with her usual stint in C Grade. Fantastic effort Kace!

This week presents a great opportunity for all teams, with every side well and truly in the mix against Buninyong.

FOOTBALL REPORT

A very frustrated coach could not hide his disappointment after losing by a single goal to Carngham Linton last week in the Seniors. More scoring shots was the positive but moving away from our system was not and that, coupled with poor discipline, cost us a win we should have captured.

The Reserves ran out of legs late to lose by nine points after playing well for most of the game. In better news the U/18 lads recorded their first win of the season and showed that there is some real talent taking the field in this grade. The U/15s were classy and moved the ball effectively as they stormed to a 75 point victory.

The Nick McIntosh Memorial Shield was won by Carngham Linton on the inaugural occasion of it being competed for with the football and netball results falling their way across the day. Despite the results of some games the Bull Milgate Oval was once again a great place to be as a big crowd attended the day’s activities. It was fantastic to see McIntosh family members and many of Nick’s former Clunes and Carngham Linton teammates in attendance. We look forward to trying to win the

shield next year.

Today we travel to Buninyong which always presents as a challenge across the grades. Injuries are starting to cause selection issues for the Seniors and Reserves but we are no different to any other club and we embrace the opportunity to test our depth.

Benji Featherston steps up to make his senior

debut while still eligible for the U/18s. It’s fantastic for the club to have a local product join the senior ranks and the fact he’s the son of club stalwarts Christian and Jaqui just makes it feel even more significant. Spare a thought for Fev who gets to be the proud father of the debutant but also the frustrated coach of the U/18s who loses one of his team leaders. Mixed emotions for sure.

Next week is our Past Players Day as we host Gordon for an important clash. It was a great day last year with so many former Maggies in attendance and we look forward to seeing everybody again. If you’re reading this and still trying to make up your mind about attending, then think no longer. You should attend and you will enjoy the day reliving your greatest moments while watching the current crop work hard on the oval. By the way, a former Clunes player by the name of Nick Hind is returning to play on the day. Fantastic for the club to have its most recent AFL player keen to play and we look forward to welcoming him back, along with all the other past players.

But before we can worry about the Gordon match we must overcome Buninyong. Get along for a look because we love having strong support on both the grass and the tarmac.

Senior Player I’m looking forward to watching this week: Another week, another debutant. Benji Featherston makes his senior debut and continues the lengthy involvement of the family with Clunes senior teams. Expect to see Benji in the forward line where his form in practice matches showed he is a goalkicking chance whenever he plays. Congratulations to Benji and all the best.

Reserves player I’m looking forward to watching this week: Lachlan Becker joined us late in the pre-season having last played a couple of years ago. It hasn’t taken him long to settle in and he’s been playing good footy down back for our Reserves. Long and lean, Lachie presents as a genuine option to play anywhere on the field.

Junior player I’m looking forward to watching this week: Chad Dean is a long-limbed defender who is really starting to understand how to use his body and how to play his role. Good form recently marks him as one to watch for the future.
