NETBALL REPORT

Clunes hits the road this Saturday for the trip to Rokewood as we enter another important round of CHFL netball.

Following last week's matches against Newlyn, every grade will be looking to take another step forward. With only a handful of rounds remaining in the home and away season, every game provides an opportunity to continue building combinations, reward the hard work that's been put in at training, and put together consistent four-quarter performances.

Our senior sides will be aiming to finish the season strongly, while our junior teams will be looking to continue their momentum as they keep developing their confidence and teamwork. Across all grades, the focus will be on making the most of opportunities, applying pressure across the court and supporting one another from end to end.

Rokewood has always provided a competitive contest, and we're looking forward to another full day of netball between the two clubs.

We wish all of our players, coaches, umpires, team managers and supporters safe travels for the away trip and thank everyone who continues to support the Maggies throughout the season.

FOOTBALL REPORT

Another week and another chance for our teams to hit the oval and chase the victories we always crave. The Seniors and Reserves are battling away still displaying good football for periods in every match but are finding the challenge of maintain that form difficult through the four quarters. Rokewood Corindhap is one of our longer road trips for the season but we know that distance is never an excuse and can expect to see our teams tackling hard, sharing the ball and trying to excite our supporters. 

Our U/15 and U/18 teams are still able to look ahead and see finals in their future if they can continue to record wins. The steady improvement being shown by the U/18 squad has been fantastic to see and their enthusiasm in the training track this week was infectious. The 15s have been using up to five of our U/12 kids each game during the past few weeks yet they have still played some attractive football and shown the development process is producing intelligent players. A big game ahead for the 15s against one of the higher ranked teams this week.

Runner I’m looking forward to watching this week: Senior runner is a job usually handled by our U/18s coach, Christian Featherston, as he is sent to all parts of the oval to retrieve players who have ‘forgotten’ that they are required to rotate to the bench each quarter. This week Fev is unavailable so we’ve drafted in a young bloke with a dodgy hamstring in Lachie Wrigley. Hopefully the hamstring holds together while Lach is filling in for Fev because we want to see him playing again before the season is finished.

Umpire I’m looking forward to watching this week: Not sure how many people in the club realise that our club umpire for the U/18s and Reserves each week is an elite sportswoman in her own right. Charli McLennan has already represented Australia in cricket at U/19 level and as a regular in the Carlton CC lineup is aiming for a contract with Victoria this summer. Clearly a biased viewpoint but she is also the best club umpire running around each week in the CHFL. As a club we are so fortunate to have Charli contributing to our games every week but what else would we expect from a member of the McLennan clan.

Senior Player I’m looking forward to watching this week: Recently The Courier discovered a player at Clunes who is ‘almost up to team of the year’ standards. No news for anybody who watches Clunes regularly as we all know the ability of Ryan Thompson. If Pin kicks a bag this weekend then the Seniors will be that much closer to another win. Aim straight Pin!

Reserves player I’m looking forward to watching this week: Jake Graham is the type of loyal soldier that every coach loves to have in his team. Trains every week, fronts up to play every week, plays wherever he’s asked, never complains, just goes out and gives his all every week. Highlighted online this week by his former coach, Ash Anderson, for getting amongst the goalkickers last week. Do it again Jake. Reward yourself.

Junior player I’m looking forward to watching this week: Ryan Kinnersly is a quiet achiever in the forward line for the U/18s who regularly bobs up with a crucial goal. Ryan has kicked goals each time the lads have won this year so we hope to see him amongst the majors again this weekend.
